Ways You Can Use Coconut Oil for Horses

Coconut oil. This oil has quite a few really good ways you can use it for horses. First of all, it's a natural supplement, which is why I love it. And second, it consists of iron, vitamin E, vitamin C, vitamin K and is made up of 85% saturated fat. Here are 7 ways you can use coconut oil for horses!

#1. Insect bite relief.
Insects biting is quite regular for most horses. Just like in humans, these bites become itchy, then infected and sore if left untreated. Horses that are out in the pasture during summer are more susceptible to being bit. The vitamins C and E contained in coconut oil actually help to soothe sore bites in order to stop horses itching them and causing them to get infected.

#2. Mane and tail.
Coconut oil is really good for your hair, including horse's mane and tail. Rubbing it into the mane and tail is a great way to clean your horse and it helps to promote overall healthier and smoother hair. Coconut oil is actually the main ingredient in a lot of shampoos.

#3. Improved recovery.
The fats in coconut oil are broken down much quicker than the fats in other oils. This helps to reduce lactic acid in the horse's muscles and can help with recovery.

#4. Rain scald and infected skin.
A great way of treating the scabs caused by rain scald is to rub coconut oil over the affected area. And it's very healthy for the skin.

#5. Gut health.
Coconut oil is really good for the gut and also reduces the risk of colic and ulcers in the stomach.

#6. Encourage picky eaters.
The majority of horses love the taste of coconut oil. Since it is an oil, it can be added to any sort of concentrates. (Pellets etc.)

#7. Repairs dry, cracked hooves.
If your horse has dry or cracked hooves, try rubbing a little bit of this oil into their hooves. (on the outside) It will help to repair them, and also promotes strong, healthy, shiny hooves.
